Week Seven (February 12, 2012)

Week Six Preparedness Assignment: (February 5, 2012)
Week Seven Preparedness Assignment (February 12, 2012)

FOOD PURCHASE: At least 14 gallons of water per person. You can live a lot longer without food than you can without water. So water is perhaps the most essential item in your food storage.
NOTE: The easiest way to store the bulk of your water storage is in 55 gallon polyethylene (plastic) water storage drums (FDA approved for storing drinking water). You simply fill the drums up with your own tap water.
The recommended amount of water storage is a two- week supply, which is a minimum of 14 gallons per person. Seven gallons is for drinking (the average person needs at least 2 quarts of water per day), and seven gallons is for sanitary purposes. If you have dehydrated items in your food storage, you may wish to store additional water. (We will eventually move to a goal of a 3-months supply!)
FINANCIAL PREPAREDNESS: Commit to saving a little cash each pay day. Set up an automatic transfer from your checking into a savings account. Even a small dollar amount will begin to build into a nice safety net for your family. Discuss as a family what you may have to cut out of your week for your sacrifice.

Week Six (February 5, 2012)

Due to technical problems beyond my control, this assignment wasn't posted until the following week. We'll make up for it!

Week Five (January 29, 2012)

Week Five Preparedness Assignment: (January 29, 2012)

FOOD PURCHASE:  50 pounds of grain for your family. This could be wheat, white rice, corn or other grains. Be sure and add it to your inventory list you created a couple weeks ago.
NOTE: The Relief Society will be canning at the church on Tuesday, January 31st. Join with them or make a trip to the Cannery. The Cannery in Lindon is only open on Tuesdays and Thursdays for canning.  No appointment necessary. You must have a group of at least three (3). Hey, some can babysit while others do the canning. Many hands make light work… have fun!

Week Four (January 22, 2012)

Week Four Preparedness Assignment: (January 22, 2012)
Get to know your Block Captain and group. (See program insert in today’s church bulletin.)
Plan to meet one day this week as a Block. This will be your emergency “family” in case of a disaster. Be familiar with who lives in each household. Make it a true Mormon event and someone bring refreshments! Have fun!
(Please note: many of the Block organizations have changed. Please refer to your handout. Additional copies can be found in the Ward Clerk’s office.)
Place the Block group sheet in your binder or red emergency folder, if you have one.

FOOD PURCHASE: 5  1-pound containers of salt.

Note: The Block Captains were not quite in place at the time of this publishing of this assignment. We will return to this assignment shortly, so be watching. Please go ahead and purchase the salt.

Week Three (January 15, 2012)

Ready or Not... Here We Go! (January 1st and 8th)

Week One -- January 1, 2012 Assignment
Week Two -- January 8, 2012 Assignment

Get Organized!
1. Please discuss as a family what personal goals you have in the area of self reliance. Write them down in a small spiral notebook.
2. Take an inventory of your food storage now on hand, water on hand, and available finances you have access to in case of an emergency. Record your findings in your notebook.
3. As a family, perhaps in Family Home Evening, research scriptures regarding preparedness and how they relate to you. Choose a favorite one and let it be your inspiration this year! Write it in your notebook.
That's it! Have fun with this assignment and again, look forward with us to the coming year, with enthusiasm and resolve to be a ward family that is knit together with love! (And very prepared!)
